Competition Bureau Alleges Chimney Cleaning Log Doesn't

The Competition Bureau has alleged that SUPERSWEEP Chimney Cleaning Log, the KEL KEM Chimney Creosote Cleaner, and the KEL KEM Creosote Conditioner have been falsely advertising their efficacy as to cleaning chimneys.

The company "Imperial Brush Co. Ltd., is a company incorporated in the province of New Brunswick. The Respondent Kel Kem Ltd. is a company incorporated in the province of Ontario. The Respondents are part of a group of companies which operate under the name Imperial Manufacturing Group."

Imperial Brush Company is alleged to have made the following representations about the Chimney Cleaning Log.

Helps Prevent Chimney Fires;
Helps Eliminate Dangerous Creosote In Your Chimney;
Images on the packaging making the above representations or in support thereof.

There are other representations that concern the Competition Bureau. But what is interesting is that these civil charge is the result of a 2003 inquiry from the Commissioner about the efficacy of the Chimney cleaning log. They wanted to see the test results that Imperial Brush was relying upon.

In May 2004, Imperial Brush company apparently responded and then on January 2007, the Commissioner brought the above amended application.
