Avoid the Scams. What Does John Chow Advise?

An example of street markets accepting credit ...

John Chow and Shoemoney are known for their sometimes not so friendly rivalry with regard to affiliate marketing.

Last month, June 2008, John Chow has a guest blogger Steve write about about how to avoid business opportunity scams.

Steve's four tips are:

1. First and Foremost: Google

2. Beware the Affiliates

3. Forums and Blogs

4. Contact Information

5. Refund. Refund. Refund.

Only the 5th tip is worth reading more about, but Steve got it wrong. He advises that you a) pay by credit card and then b) try to get a chargeback.

Unfortunately, he tells you nothing about how to get a chargeback from a credit card company.

Typically, as a consumer, you need to establish fraud - common law or statutory fraud.

How do you do that, easily and without the help of a lawyer?

Well, if you live in one of the states that requires business opportunity sellers to register, and they haven't then, this is a statutory fraud.

This is how the FTC routinely puts biz op scammers out of business; you should use this trick too.
