Why Google Sucks. Jimmy crack corn and I don't care.
Google sucks because it delivers up popular stories at the expense of content. I have written a number of short blawgs about Kirk Wright, the hedge fund manager who the SEC alleges was running a ponzi scheme. The SEC alleges that Kirk Wright had $180 million from investors, but apparently less than $6 million can be recovered.
Both Mike Tierny at the AJC and the Wall Street Journal have written long and comprehensive articles about Kirk Wright. But if you Google "Kirk Wright" the number one entry is from this blawg. What about the story on Kirk Wright is so deserving of of this number one rank?

Very little. The entry is a very short piece relaying information about whether Kirk Wright may owe money to his ex-wife. It is not that important in the overall scheme of Kirk Wirght's misdeeds and certainly significantly less important than many other stories professional journalists have written about. The best part of this number one ranking is that, according to my server logs, most people simply exit the blawg after clicking on the above entry! Google sucks.

Maybe Google is on crack.
Also, news articles tend to expire after a few days or weeks, unless you pay to buy them.

I agree about the pay sites. But doesn't it seem crazy that a small silly article about Kirk Wright's alimony is the number one story on Google for "Kirk Wright"?
I remember when the story broke, I had a small reference to the free WSJ Law Blog. My story was number 1; while the free WSJ story was number 4.
Crack.
