Googling isn't Making us Stoopider - Something Else Is.

Seal of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission

No this is not another whack an Nicholas Carr and his essay in Atlantic, entitled "Is Google Making Us Stupid?"

Instead, I wonder why google hasn't made some of us smarter.

According to the SEC,

"

The Securities and Exchange Commission yesterday announced an action charging advisory firm Lincoln Funds International, Inc. and its three principals who raised at least $21 million from nearly 400 investors nationwide in an alleged securities fraud scheme that involved its biotechnology investment fund companies."

Ok, that is bad: $21 million by 400 is around $50,000 per person.

A whack of change.

Why was this hard to spot?

Or was it? One of the principals, Mr. Carver has a neat background.

"Robert Carver has been the subject of at least five state administrative orders including three by the California Department of Corporations since 1996."

And if we run over to the California Department of Corporations and do a search on "Robert Carver", powered by Google, we get this list of cease and desist orders.

Uh, Nick must be wrong: we are plenty stupid despite google search.
