Safedivert New Telemarketing Scam?

SMS message received on a Motorola RAZR wirele...

From time to time, some one text messages me on my cell.

This is pointless as I delete them all: if you want to converse with me, you can email me and get by my spam filters.

If I don't know you, you might want to call first.

Markus, writing at his blog Plenty of Fish, has a good description of a new text message scam.

The scam works like this. The website, http://www.safedivert.com.au/, promises to keep your cell phone number safe: after all, a young girl would never give it out.

But when you are contacted, by that lovely bit of stuff you think that meet sometime, somewhere, to text her back, then the service:

"charges 2.99 per message, of which you are charged for messages you send and sent to you (I think).

Of course, the person draws out the conversation, in order to make as much money possible.

There is, of course, a 1-800 number and a website, which I will provide you with later.

Yet, upon calling the 1-800 number the call center monkeys inform you that you are responsible for all charges, and there is aboslutely nothing you can do about, depsite the fact that you did not sign up for the service, or that you were deliberately misinformed."

Hope that you pay your cell phone by Visa, and charge back this little fraud.
